De Centrale, Amsterdam

In 2001, this KPN Central Office was the very first building completed on IJburg. Due to developments in telecommunications since then, the data center largely became obsolete, and KPN divested the building.

Midvast is currently redeveloping it with the aim of creating a "Short Stay" building. The design, by Vurb Architects, will give the building a new, contemporary, and transparent look.

The building will consist of 98 studios and 5 maisonette apartments, ranging in size from 25m² to 38m². It will also feature a communal space and a rooftop garden. The accommodations are intended for stays of at least 7 days and up to a maximum of 6 months.

An increasing number of people are visiting Amsterdam for short periods. The target audience includes young professionals, expats, and digital nomads from various sectors. This development offers them an opportunity to meet others, create a temporary sense of home, and get to know Amsterdam.

The project is currently in the permit phase. It is not yet known when construction will begin.
